The Truth About "Natural Healing"
- Ten Things You Should Know
10. -- How You Can Learn More
Continue to examine ALL "scientific" observations, conclusions
and theories IN RELATION TO EACH OTHER, and you'll see how
little we really know for sure. In contrast to the changeable,
often-contradictory, sometimes-near-whimsical theories of humans,
you'll find a remarkably stable, dependable kind of "wisdom" in the
natural world. (Some credit "Mother Nature" --- whatever became of
"Father Nature"?) The precious few doctors (Medical OR Non-Medical)
I've ever known to manifest truly profound respect for that
"wisdom", not-likely-by-coincidence grew up on the farm and
understood how life works in the real world, not just in the
laboratory (and were often labeled "quacks" by "technological
medicine").
So if you desire truly natural health, you need to read your
anatomy-physiology textbook from the perspective of life as a
CO-OPERATIVE effort, not as a COMPETITIVE one; even if it WAS
written from the second perspective, as most are. ( A quick scan
of the parts on the lymphatic system and the surely-misnamed immune
system will tell.)
But keep reading, observing, thinking and reasoning --- "outside the
box". Take nothing for granted; make no assumptions; question the
"unquestionable". Always remember that truth, like life, is
interdependent. All the pieces or elements must fit together and
work together, or nothing fits and works. Even when we don't "have
all the pieces", we can be sure that genuine truths will never
contradict other genuine truths ---- nor that rare UNcommon quality
we so glibly refer to as "common sense".

Suggestions for Additional Reading
If possible, check out the print editions in your Public Library
first; then you can make better decisions on which one(s) you want
to buy for reference. Some are quite expensive; others may be out
of print. Most can be found used at some of the online bookstores.
Local retailers can probably find other editions from ISBN's shown
here. ( Latest editions are hardly necessary for beginning home use,
and will most likely cost much more.)

Start with ---
"On Disease" --- ESSAY by Dr. Lewis Thomas [1913-1993]
(former Dean of Yale Medical School and former President of
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center)
--- In the collection "The Medusa and the Snail"---
--- ISBN: 0-670-46568-2 ---
(HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to help start the "journey" with more
realistic expectations and perspectives)
*****
Gray's Anatomy
NOT LIKELY FOR BEGINNERS
--- listed first only because, to all accounts, it WAS the
first --- well over a hundred years ago.
(Not TV's Grey's Anatomy --- careful with spelling if you
search online.)
Unabridged editions around 1200 pgs.
(1974 ISBN-10: 0914294083; ISBN-13: 978-0914294085)
*****
Probably A Much Better Beginning---
Human Anatomy and Physiology by Elaine Nicpon Marieb.
Written for first semester nursing students.
Also around 1200 pgs.
Easier reading; more explanation. Almost pure
anatomy-physiology with simple, clear information & very little
actual "medical" theory. Sticks with "how we're put together and how
we function". --- The recommended approach if you're looking to
understand NATURAL rather than Medical healing.
(8th edition 2010; ISBN-10: 0805395911;
ISBN-13: 978-0805395914)

And MAYBE an even more ideal STARTER edition for most---
Anatomy & Physiology For Dummies
--- Wiley Publishing Co. $28 paperback
Ya' gotta love these folks. They know that's how today's
world makes most of us feel. They're trying to help us change that
feeling. Uses plain English. And the price isn't bad, either.
They even give you the First Chapter as a free sample.

An older but quite well-rounded starter if you can find a
copy---
Own Your Own Body by Dr. Stan Malstrom, @ 400pgs.
Paperback, 1984 Keats Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 0879832150 ; ISBN-13: 9780879832155
Hardcover, 1992 Woodland Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 0913923230 ; ISBN-13: 9780913923238
It appears from recent searches to be out of print,
but still available used from a number of websites.
Contains brief, simplified entry-level anatomy-physiology
descriptions along with natural living & healing "self-help";
including basic non-toxic herbal remedies that could help most
during transition to truly natural LIVING (the REAL healing)
with the ULTIMATE GOAL of making proper nutrition and
highly-restricted toxic-chemical exposure entirely sufficient
for a REALLY "good life" --- truly-natural "HEALTH care"
--- not just SICKNESS-care with "natural" remedies --- the
two are not the same.
KEEP THAT GOAL AND PERSPECTIVE IN MIND IN ALL YOU READ AND DO.

NOTE for print (paper and ink) editions---
Latest editions are hardly necessary for beginning home use,
and will most likely cost much more.
Also --- if you're not seeing them in person (as with online
shopping) be sure it's the original textbook and not a "laboratory
edition" with only lab experiments or a "study guide" with only
sample exam questions.
--- Here's sincerely hoping you enjoy the "journey" ---
And a REALLY "good life"
