The Truth About "Natural" Healing
Appendix - 3
Fake Food --- Real Food
The Simple, Uncomplicated Basics of Truly "Eating Healthy"
You don't need to memorize a bunch of rules --- or even a bunch of
facts --- When you understand the BASIC PRINCIPLES, the rest becomes
pretty obvious --- when you really think about it.
All too often, we just fail to take time to shut out the noise
and really think and reason --- rationally and logically --- (NOT
RATIONALIZE) --- about REAL life in the REAL world --- instead of
mindlessly taking for granted the purportedly "sophisticated",
self-contradictory pseudo-scientific theories and speculations
we've heard all our lives.
------------------
"Simplicity IS the
ULTIMATE sophistication."
--- Leonardo da Vinci
------------------
With that perspective in mind ---- I ask you:
Do you EAT TO LIVE? --- OR --- do you LIVE TO EAT? --- Is there a
difference? The words are exactly the same, but, rearranged, the
values and objectives expressed are exactly opposite. Among the
ancient Greek Philosophers, the Stoics believed, essentially, that
all pleasure was absolutely detrimental to true quality of life. If
that were so, a beautiful, fully ripe and nourishing, freshly
plucked fruit should have absolutely no flavor (or taste terrible)!
If the Epicureans were correct in believing that pleasure is
everything and little else matters, the most deliciously flavored,
absolutely indigestible SAND should produce the best life ever!
Hopefully, those senseless extremes awaken OUR senses to the vital
importance of SOUND values and PROPER balance for the REALLY "good
life". For human-nature-as-we-know-it, however, balance CAN be
deceptive. If we're carrying 5-pounds in one hand and 20-pounds in
the other, we tend to either LEAN toward the lighter side or ELEVATE
the lighter load away from our body in order to FEEL balanced ---
even though our body is not actually IN balance with EITHER method.
Likewise, when we aren't considering the eventual consequences of a
decision (or may not even know about them), our FEELINGS often LEAN
toward convenience or other pleasures; even though the factors that
contribute to long-term TRUE quality of life carry much greater
"weight". When that happens, it's our "life priorities" that are not
truly in balance; and we may never experience REAL health (the FULLNESS
of the biological processes that constitute life), only absence of
dis---ease (distress, discomfort) --- and THAT only if we can find a
medicine that will sufficiently block our AWARENESS of the ACTUAL
illness ---the biological damage or functional deficiency CAUSING the
dis---ease/distress/discomfort--- which will still be there, just
waiting to "break loose" in some other way.
We can fool ourselves into IMAGINING that life and health are major
priorities when, actually, our primary PURSUIT may be PLEASURE,
while our real concern for life may be only in the enjoyment of the
moment ---- with, possibly, an OCCASIONAL momentary fear of death or
serious injury ---- which soon passes if we're still able to "have a
good time". We may call ourselves "really living" --- "the good
life" --- but deep inside --- biologically --- we'll actually be
LESS alive than if we were NOT "living it up".
Is it REALLY that serious?
Well, think about this:
Even a HEALTHY body must rebuild or replace worn-out cells ---the
fundamental function of TRUE healing--- on a daily basis in order to
STAY alive and healthy. And not just our skin and other "high-wear"
areas; internal organs, muscles, nerve cells and all the rest. Yet,
most of us are unaware of the many elements of our "civilized"
lifestyle that SERIOUSLY SIDETRACK or even OBSTRUCT that internal
biological rebuilding process and thus constitute the PRIMARY
controllable, preventable cause of nearly all illness.
---Even the ones popularly considered "contagious"
---the biological relationships of which were explained in
Part 9. "Unconventional Concepts
of Illness & Health" ,
and the Appendix 2. column:
"Medicine Is A Blue Poly Tarp".
Of course, we all acknowledge we have to eat "good" food. But, does
"good" mean something that is MADE FROM an edible living thing but
is now only a DERIVATIVE OF that living thing; just as cardboard is
MADE FROM wood, but is no longer ACTUALLY wood? (And we would
surely NOT want our home built with it!)
-----------------------
We tend to thoughtlessly IMAGINE that when whatever we're "eating"
satisfies our appetite, we've been fed and nourished --- although,
sometimes we feel full but still not satisfied --- that, in itself
should tell us something. If a non-living chemical drug can deaden
pain without addressing the ACTUAL CAUSE of the pain, should we find
it surprising that a "dead and embalmed" food-like substance could
"deaden" or pacify our appetite without satisfying our body's REAL
NEED?
-----------------------
While government appointed agencies in many countries are
charged with TRYING to compel "food" product manufacturers to inform
consumers what is actually IN their FOOD-LIKE PRODUCTS (which actually
ARE mostly MANUFACTURED and only MINIMALLY grown --- chemically, at
that, from what COULD otherwise be life-giving earth) WE still need
to decide whether or not we WANT those materials or substances
PRETENDING to nourish and repair our most personal "home" --- our body.
BUT DON'T BE INTIMIDATED! You don't have to be a chemist, a
biologist, or any other "hi-tech" person (or even try to evaluate
the qualifications of supposed "experts") to think and reason and
make wise, rational (and, actually, very simple and straightforward)
real-food choices.
For starters, just read a few "food" INGREDIENT labels (not the
eye-catching advertising on the front --- the ACTUAL INGREDIENTS in
the fine print around back or up and down the side of the label ---
legally, it's supposed to be there somewhere); and see how many
ingredients you recognize as a "living thing" compared to those that
are only DERIVED FROM or MAY have never even been PART OF a living
thing ---
--- and then ask yourself ---
"How can a NON-LIVING material or substance
--- no matter how delightfully flavored ---
impart to us
life that it does not have?"
------------------------
(If I don't even have
"two nickels to rub together"
there's no way I can give you
a million dollars, now, is there? :)
------------------------
The fundamental concept of
truly-life-giving and healing food
is just that simple and that basic!
------------------------
Abundant speculation to the contrary not withstanding, life has
never actually been observed or demonstrated to spring from
non-living matter. Remember Louis PASTEUR's famous "experiment" that
demonstrated just the opposite! Government-appointed "guardians" of
health and "food safety" still endorse and often require PASTEURization
(get the connection?) of certain food items ---- in tacit acceptance
and acknowledgement of that ultimate fundamental "fact of life".
-----------------------
(Of course, pasteurized ANYTHING
is no longer "live food" ---
it's now "dead and embalmed", too.
------------------------
Never ASSUME that ANY item that is widely sold as "food" ACTUALLY
measures up to this "real life" criteria. Make your own investigation.
If it isn't worth at least a quick label-read, how can it be worth
risking your long-term true quality of life on its very-short-lived
(and very questionable) "pleasure"?
How pervasive the problem really is can be seen in
* this quote in Appendix 2 *
from New York Times Magazine investigative reporter Michael Moss. (You
really need to see the entire report if you haven't already. It's quite
an expose'. The link to do so follows the quotation.)
If you've already read and absorbed the above three references,
perhaps you can see why some of us consider natural healing ENTIRELY
SUFFICIENT [---not a cause for panic---] and the only TRUE HEALING
there ever is! Only IT addresses our body's REAL NEEDS ---
hopefully, before the lack of such turns into serious damage
or dire emergency.
Many years ago, a rather widely published (at the time) Nutritional
Medical Doctor (Mainstream Nutrition AND Mainstream Medicine have
largely relegated him to oblivion) had an elegantly simple guiding
"formula" for this concept: "Eat only those foods which [readily] spoil
or rot or decay ...before they do." (Quoted from personal interview in
AWAKE! February 22, 1968 "How Fine are Refined Foods?" and his own book
"Please Doctor, Do Something").
"REAL FOOD for Beginners" by Christy Pooschke ---
Copyright 2014 --- (Highly Recommended! --- Please, download (AND READ)
the FREE E-Book --- She did a great job.) --- expresses the same
elegantly simple basic concept in a slightly different way.
She writes: "I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and told I would suffer
with pain and fatigue for the rest of my life...
...I started reading the ingredient labels on every food I
purchased, and I stopped eating things that I couldn't clearly identify
as having come from a plant or animal in nature...
... And within just a few months ... all of my symptoms ...
completely resolved!"
Her advice? Yep! The same basic concept-----
"...As a general rule, if you cannot easily identify every
ingredient on a label as having come directly from a plant or an animal
in nature, then I do not recommend you purchase the product."
For the most part, true health and wellness really is that
simple and that basic; the main reason for its apparent decline in
"civilized" countries is because the above principles of healthful
living "go against the grain" of our increasingly mentally passive and
pleasure loving human nature by requiring a certain personal
involvement that many seem to find distasteful. -----What's become of
our love of adventure?
So for those who need a little more "hand holding" while
learning to apply the basic principles above (which is probably most of
us in "western" so-called civilization who have never given any thought
to this) the rest of the book contains basic starter recipes and a
grocery shopping guide with examples of what to look for --- and, even
more importantly, what to LOOK OUT for. If you're a "recipe person",
check out her even more extensive additive-free cookbook (entitled
simply and appropriately
"Eating Addidive Free!") with lots more recipes and
more extensive explanations of many "HIDDEN" food additives. (Some are
"hiding in plain sight"; we just need to adjust our focus.) IT'S A
FREE DOWNLOAD TOO; SO GO FOR IT! Even if you're not a "recipe
person", the "food"/chemical explanations alone are priceless.
One last note--- If you find nutritional supplements to be a
necessary addition to ---not a substitute for--- "live food", read
THEIR labels carefully, too. Some individuals do appear to have
acquired metabolic impairments that cause them to need a bit more of
certain nutritional elements than the live-food available to them
can provide. But you need THAT nutrition to come from living
sources, also; not from some dead chemical that RESEMBLES a vitamin or
other biological element --- or even a "natural" or "organic" material
that has been "refined" away from its natural environment. This
includes mineral supplements, as well. The Medical Doctor/Nutritionist
quoted above also used to say, "Don't eat any rocks" --- as in
capsules, pressed into tablets or any other way --- which also is
supremely logical advice, because PLANTS are EQUIPPED to digest the
minerals of the earth, but humans and animals are NOT.
Hopefully this will give you a "leg up" as you continue your
research and self-analysis. You'll surely come across much
conflicting nutritional and other health advice. Weigh it carefully
and logically --- on the basis of the FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES of life
described above and on the other pages of this website. "Nature"
functions well --- if at all --- ONLY as a unified whole --- never as
an isolated part.
Here's wishing you all the health and wellness you can cultivate!
--- NATURALLY!

Mary had a little lamb,
A lobster and some prunes;
A glass of milk, a piece of pie,
And then some macaroons.
It made the naughty waiters grin
To see her order so,
And when they carried Mary out
Her face was white as snow.

know, please "wise me up" HERE
so that we can give proper credit.
Modern nutritionists will probably never completely agree on
what is "good for us" OR what food COMBINATIONS are detrimental. The
details are also certain to vary with each unique individual --- which
each of us is. But this little verse seems a powerful reminder that
momentary pleasures can easily lead to future misery --- sometimes
lasting a long, long time --- which SURELY is not the REALLY "good
life".

A Word About Fresh Produce
---Three words, actually---
IT'S - LIVE - FOOD
The non-profit Environmental Working Group regularly reports tests of
a broad cross-section of produce items and generally publishes two
special lists at least once a year of the twelve found with the most
pesticide residue and the fifteen with the least. (Dubbed "The Dirty
Dozen" and "The Clean Fifteen")
https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty-dozen.php
https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/clean-fifteen.php
Theoretically, "organic" produce SHOULD bypass the
pesticide problem completely. But it sometimes has it's own
problems. For example, when producing a "cash crop" becomes too
"urgent" (even "organic" farmers need money to live), the compost
that's used as "live food" for plants (instead of dead chemical
"fertilizers") may not have time to decay thoroughly enough for its
beneficial microorganisms to completely recycle and naturally
"sanitize" all the biological waste that goes into it. Thus the
occasional recalls you may sometimes hear for SOME organic produce
items. --- Don't obsess over it, but do exercise good sense.
There are a number of specialty products sold for home
cleaning of produce that contain an edible form of alcohol to kill
surface microorganisms. (And IF it is concentrated ENOUGH, it should
also "cut the grease" of oil-based pesticides) If you keep 90- to
180-proof spirits in the house already, you probably don't need
anything else (except a spray bottle, perhaps) --- just give it a few
minutes to "work" after you spray it thoroughly and before you scrub it
gently with a soft nylon or other slightly abrasive pad. As another
option, people in some countries routinely wash their fruits and
vegetables in water with a little chlorine bleach added, as a "normal"
part of their life. Personally, I'd feel safer with a "shot of
bourbon" (and would much prefer to use it this way than to drink it:).
But that's just me. You need to do your own research for your own
life. The above cited website also has suggestions on cleaning produce.
One other thing you should research, if you want really LIVE food,
is "sprouting". The Orient used to be "famous" for it's bean
sprouts; but, you can sprout and eat almost any seeds (or grains ---
they're seeds, too) and most sprouts don't really need cooking ---
which de-activates their enzymes and then they're less alive --- which
is also true of fresh produce --- the less cooking; the more life ---
"no-cooking" surely being the ultimate "taste" to cultivate.
Your research may turn up paranoid-sounding concerns for
"microbes", but if seeds are clean and edible to begin with (not toxic
garden or other agricultural seeds) and you KEEP them clean as they
sprout ----- Well ----- I've eaten home-sprouted seeds for decades with
no problems ever (unless they're accidentally left in direct sunlight
trying to green-up their new little leaves and start to wilt and
decay --- which becomes SO readily discernible you won't even THINK
about eating them --- No scary mysteries there). For most, just rinse
in clean water twice a day and leave in a well-ventilated draining
position.
Sometimes, we just need to exercise our uncommon "common sense"; and
learn to be more afraid of toxic chemicals and less afraid of LIFE!
Considerable current scientific research finds evidence that the
"purpose in life" of nearly all life forms appears to be to SUPPORT
other life forms IN SOME WAY --- not to attack them or to compete with
them as is the popular theoretical view. (See Part 9. "Unconventional Concepts of Illness & Health"
, if you missed that discussion.)
